Speaking Part 2 Revision – Describing Something New You Would Like to Try
Describe a foreign language that you would like to learn. You should say:
- What it is
- What countries speak it
- How you would learn it
And explain why you would like to learn it.
Sample Response (It may not last for exactly 2 minutes when spoken)
I would like to talk about a foreign language which I would like to learn. It is Cantonese, the popular language spoken by people in Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong.
Cantonese is one of the multiple local languages in China, in addition to Mandarin. In addition, it is significantly different to the languages that I am currently able to speak, including Vietnamese, English and German. The reason is that Cantonese is based on hieroglyph and not the standard Latin alphabets.
Learning Cantonese will not be a difficult job for me, I guest, because I will move to Hong Kong this September to take part in a student exchange program. I plan to stay there for half a year, and during this period, there will be multiple opportunities for me to learn Cantonese, for example, by speaking regularly with native speakers in Hong Kong.
The major reason why I wish to learn Cantonese is my decision to live in Hong Kong for 6 months. Furthermore, learning a new language is also a great way to boost my creativity, memory, logical thinking, as well as widen my career prospects.
If you were to answer the topic above, how would your response look like? Please share it by leaving a comment.
