Candidate’s Essay:

Many people strongly consider that only by completing academic assignments every single day can children succeed at school. Others, however, support the opposite opinion. In this essay, I would like to exam the argument for and against this view.

It is true that homework considerably provides children with a hard foundation to grasp academic knowledge. For example, learning Mathematics enhances the calculating skills, studying Geography helps them understand deeper about the natural world, living creatures and so on. Especially, if they master English, the international language, they will have great chances to keep up with the world. Students will be able to widen their circle of friends with foreigners, update the latest tendencies by reading worldwide newspapers such as New York Times, The Guardian,… Therefore, completing homework regularly helps students to achieve high grades at school and create a basic ground for them to purchase their dream jobs in the future.

Nevertheless, according to a recent survey, 83 percent of students considered homework a primary source of stress, while only 17 proportion of others said homework was not a stressor. Hence, most children are supposed to finish academic tasks everyday under huge pressure. On the other hand, spending all day long on homework possibly prevents students from taking part in extra activities as well as developing solf skills. This leads to a serious problem that children might meet a considerable lack of practical experiences, especially working team. In addition, these days, recruiters tend to expect their employees to gain a large range of experiences, rather than impressive grades at schools.

In short, completing homework obviously brings about positive impacts on children. However, alongside with it, students should be allowed to participate in extra activities. I believe that homework and social experience are a great combination to develop children.
