Speaking Part 1 Revision – Approaching Common Question Types
In this article, I would like to introduce several ways to approach common Speaking Part 1 question types. Please note that they are only suggested structures and that to best perform in IELTS Speaking Part 1, you should use grammar and vocabulary that you are most familiar and confident with!
Like/ Dislike Questions:
Example: Do you like going to the cinema?
I enjoy doing … .
I am a big fan of … .
I don’t find … interesting.
Free Time Questions:
Example: What do you do in your free time?
In my free time, I love doing … .
When I have free time, I am interested in doing … with … .
I would like to spend my free time doing … .
Example: What are the means of public transport in your hometown?
There are several/ multiple/ various …, including … .
There is a great variety/ diversity of …, such as … .
… are highly diverse, ranging from … to … .
Future Prediction Questions:
Example: What pets do you think will be popular in households in the future?
In the future, I think/ believe/ predict/ forecast/ reckon (that) … .
In the next … years, … will completely change in unpredictable ways, such as … .
In my opinion, the next … years will record the shift of … from … to … .
