Speaking Part 2 Practice - A Sport You Enjoy and a Building You Like

March 28, 2017

1. Describe a sport that you enjoy.

You should say:

  • What is the sport?

  • How did you first know about it?

  • How often do you practise it?

  • And explain why it is your favourite sport.

I would like to talk about a sport that I particularly enjoy and have been practising for a few years. It is badminton. For me, badminton is not only a sport or a physical exercise but also an ideal way for me to relieve of stress and make new friends.

I first knew about badminton when I was a little kid. However, at that time I did not play badminton on a regular basis, partly because I was not fully aware of the critical importance of physical exercises, but also because I was not able to find any friends to play it with me. When I went to high school, a lot of my friends were a big fan of badminton and my high school offered big playgrounds for sports activities, therefore I practised badminton much more often.

I usually play badminton in the weekends when I have large amounts of free time. I often go to sports centres with a number of my classmates for badminton matches. Sometimes we choose other kinds of sport such as football and basketball instead of badminton.

For me, badminton is a good way to help me pursue a healthy lifestyle. It is also an affordable type of sport as you do not have to buy a lot of specialised sports materials. Finally, playing badminton enables me to develop a number of important and non-academic skills such as discipline, team-work, problem-solving and co-operation.

2. Describe a building that you like.

You should say:

  • What is the bulding?

  • How did you first know about it?

  • How often do you go there?

  • And explain why it is an interesting building.

I would like to tell you about a building in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam that is very well-known and also my favourite place to go in my free time. The name of the building is Vincom Centre Ba Trieu, or simply Vincom.

Vincom is located in Ba Trieu street in the east of Hanoi. I first knew about this building when I was a little kid, as my family usually went to Vincom together in holidays and weekend time. When I became a high school student, I was busier with school work and because new alternative buildings were developed such as Royal City and Times City, I went to Vincom less often.

However, I still visit Vincom at least once every 3 months because it offers a number of unique goods and services. There are shops, food stores, supermarket chains in Vincom as well as a big game centre for children. Over the past few years, Vincom has developed new accommodation areas so that many people can call it home. For many people, the game centre for children at Vincom is the point that makes it different to other buildings and entertainment areas.

Vincom has been a part of my childhood memory. When I travel home from the UK, I always visit Vincom at least once to recall that childhood memory. And I certainly believe that Vincome will remain to be my favourite building many years from now.
